The Surprising Truth behind Juggling Motherhood and a Business
Share
When I first stepped into entrepreneurship, I had no idea how much it would mirror my journey as a mother. Both are filled with late nights, unexpected challenges, and moments of overwhelming joy. Yet, balancing the two? That has been one of my greatest lessons.
For me, “balance” doesn’t mean splitting my time evenly between being a mom and running a business. Instead, it’s learning to be fully present in whichever role I’m in at the moment. Some days my business takes center stage with deadlines and ideas that can’t wait, while other days my family needs all of me. I’ve discovered that balance is fluid—it shifts, bends, and adapts with the season of life I’m in.
Setting Boundaries That Honor Both Roles
Early on, I struggled with feeling pulled in a thousand directions. I’d answer emails during dinner, or I’d feel guilty for not spending enough time with my kids while working. Eventually, I learned that boundaries aren’t walls—they’re guides that protect my energy and my time. Whether that’s shutting the laptop after a particular hour or carving out work time when I know I’m most focused, boundaries allow me to show up better both as a mom and a business owner.
Learning to Accept Help
I’ll admit—I used to think I had to do everything myself. But motherhood and entrepreneurship both taught me the importance of leaning on others. Asking for help—whether from my partner, family, friends, or even outsourcing in my business—doesn’t mean I’m failing. It means I’m making space to thrive. And honestly, it has given me more time to enjoy the things that matter most.
Remembering to Care for Myself
Somewhere in the chaos of building a business and caring for my family, I realized I wasn’t caring for myself. I had to learn that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s essential. Even something as simple as a quiet morning coffee, journaling, or a walk outside resets me and gives me the energy to pour back into both my family and my work.
Celebrating the Joy of Both Worlds
What I love most is how beautifully intertwined these two worlds are. Motherhood has made me more patient, creative, and resilient in my business endeavors. Entrepreneurship has given me a sense of purpose and freedom that benefits my family and me. They don’t compete with each other—they complement each other.
Final Thought:
If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that balance is not about perfection—it’s about grace. Every day looks different, and that’s okay. Some days I may feel like I nailed it, and other days I’m just grateful we made it through. But when I look at my children and my business, I see a life built with love, intention, and courage. And that, to me, is balance.
